31 Days of “Out of the Box” Genealogy Tips – WorldCat

July  is completely focused on providing you with genealogy tips that are …..well,….”out of the box”.

Welcome to DAY 22 of the 31 Days of “Out of the Box” Genealogy Tips series! Need to start at the beginning of the series or catch up? Start here.

DAY 22 – WorldCat

Discovering WorldCat and how to use it in conjunction with genealogy research was a game changer for me.

So, what is it?

WorldCat  is essentially the world’s biggest card catalog for books, articles, etc. Using WorldCat enables the genealogy researcher to search libraries around the world for family history resources to advance your research.

A variety of genealogical information can be found including:

  • Local area histories
  • Specific family histories – I found one that include my ancestors and even named me(!)
  • Records to Southern Plantations
  • Religious records in a region (Ex. Methodist records in Pennsylvania)

Find a step by step tutorial on using WorldCat here.
